Steven Ramiza Presents Workshop at VPPPA Conference

Steven J. Ramiza, P.E. and Vice President of LAN recently presented a workshop session at the 30th Annual National VPPPA Conference.  The Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association (VPPPA) conference, which ran from August 25-28, was held at the Gaylord National Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.  It was attended by over 3,000 safety & health professional from both government and industry, dedicated to cooperative occupational safety, health and environmental (SHE) management systems.  Mr. Ramiza’s session, titled “The Unique Challenges in an R&D Environment”, focused on the unique challenges that SHE managers face due to the dynamic nature and the wide array of hazards that R&D facilities typically contain.  In addition to discussing the variety of challenges faced, Mr. Ramiza’ s session covered specific strategies that SHE managers can use, as well as a review of several pertinent case studies.  Mr. Ramiza hopes to present a similar session at the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Professional Development Conference & Exposition in Dallas on June 7-10, 2015.  Mr. Ramiza has over fifteen years of experience providing environmental and occupational safety regulatory compliance services for a variety of clients, including laboratory R&D, pilot plant/scale-up, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, supply-chain, and office operations. Mr. Ramiza has audited facilities for both environmental and occupational safety compliance, prepared dozens of written safety and environmental programs, and has trained thousands of employees on a variety of regulatory topics. His experience has included hazard communication, chemical hygiene, personal protective equipment assessments, emergency response, hearing conservation, fire prevention, electrical safety, machine guarding, and hazardous waste. Additionally, Mr. Ramiza has evaluated new processes for environmental, health, and safety issues; designed and recommended engineering controls and machine guards; prepared a variety of operating permits, and reviewed new regulatory requirements that may impact business plans. Mr. Ramiza has also developed and implemented industrial hygiene sampling plans for noise, volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), mold, ozone, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, electromagnetic field (EMF), formaldehyde, combustible and respirable dust, and welding fumes. He has also served as an expert witness.  VPPPA is a member-based association, supporting worksites across the U.S. in their efforts to receive and maintain VPP status.  To learn more, visit the VPPPA website.
