From the Desk of Kim Vierheilig

As autumn arrives, it’s hard to believe I have been in my new position of Vice President for eight months already. It has been an exciting year for me personally and for LAN as a company.  Being named Officer at the beginning of this year was a huge milestone in my career and I am excited to be an integral part of LAN’s future. Since becoming an architect, I have always believed in the power of design to create interesting spaces that inspire and enhance people’s lives.  It is easy to miss the subtlety of how design impacts us.  We spend most of our time indoors, therefore the spaces we occupy should be carefully considered.  It could be the way natural light streams in through a window or how interior lighting sets a mood or a task or the way color and finishes of the room make you feel, or even as simple as framing a particular view outside your window.  The details matter.

As a company this year we have embarked on several new and exciting projects that allow us to use our expertise to provide high-quality, innovative designs.  LAN was recently honored to be chosen by the Edison School District to design a new K-5 educational facility for their community.   This is a huge responsibility and we are excited to bring our passion for design to a facility where children learn and need to be creative each day.  Research has been published that links the impact design has to enhance student achievement.  As such, we have implemented these specific design principals in planning the new facility to inspire the next generation.

LAN looks forward to continue working with our clients to envision how design can play an important role in each of their projects.
